God as Redeemer

Series:CAYA
Duration:13:48

POINT #1
Jesus as our Redeemer is personal, giving us confidence to declare Him as ours and to expect movement that sustains life, through his life.

In the first mention of redeemer found in Job 19:25, Job proclaims, "For I know that my redeemer liveth".

Job needed a redeemer.

POINT #2
Jesus as our Redeemer hears our cry, buys back our lost inheritance, fulfilling his role and renewing ours.

The word for redeemer is Ga’al, which also means Kinsman. In the mosaic law, The role of Kinsman was to take the responsibility of a relative who wasn’t able to do so on his own. This could mean marrying a brothers widow to bear a child, or buying back a piece of land the brother had to sell. For example:

The Story of Boaz and Ruth is a perfect picture of the Role of a Kinsman Redeemer.

Boaz who is a Kinsman to Ruth’s late husband, takes Ruth, a widowed and poor Moabite women, with nothing to offer, redeeming her through marriage and providing a child.
This is ultimately a picture of Christ, our bridegroom redeeming us, his bride.

POINT #3
Jesus as our Redeemer gives us a firm foundation, enabling our words and meditations to be acceptable in God's sight.

The 2nd mention is in [Psa 19:14 KJV] by David

Here David is worshiping God, pleading that his entire being would be acceptable.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
David says “MY Strength"
MY rock. You are my firm foundation.

POINT #4
Jesus as our Redeemer is ALWAYS, giving mercy and Kindness, Helping us to a place of rest.

Redeemer is found 13 times in the book of Isaiah. Its interesting because it is all statements by God describing himself as their Redeemer

In Isaiah 41:11 He is the Helper and redeemer to Jacob and his men.
In Ch. 54 he is a redeemer with Everlasting kindness and has mercy.
In ch. 59 he is a redeemer who shall come.
In ch. 60 he is a redeemer who is a Savior.
In ch. 63 he is everlasting, is strong and gives rest.

POINT #5
Jesus as our Redeemer protects us from Evil all the time.

Let's also look at the first mention of the Hebrew Word for, "Redeemer", Ga’al (Guy-Al)  which is in Gen 48:15-16 to Jacob (Israel).

Here Jacob is laying on his death bed, reflecting on his life, as he asks God to bless his son Joseph.
15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
This Angel, (capital A) that redeemed him from all Evil was JESUS.
Jesus has  been in the business of Redeeming, from the beginning. Even pre-incarnate, before he existed in the flesh

POINT #6
Jesus as our Redeemer was God’s plan all along.
The word Redeemer doesn’t appear in the NT, But the first mention of A redeemer is in Luke 1:68

The context of this passage is the Birth of John the Baptist. Zacharias, John’s father,  was not able to speak because He doubted God’s promise regarding John’s birth. These are the first words to come from Zacharias mouth after being filled with the holy sprit and being able to speak again.
[Luk 1:68-72 KJV] 68 Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;…Skip to  [Luk 1:76-77 KJV] 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Zacharias is prophesying the Redeemer who will fulfill the convent once and for all. This is the first phyiscial coming of Christ.
[Heb 9:12 KJV] 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
[Gal 3:13 KJV] 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:

POINT #7
Jesus as our Redeemer gives us hope in deliverance when all else is lost.

Finally, a significant mention is Jesus’ response to his disciples question about the timing of his second coming, to judge the world in  Luke 21:27,28

27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Here comes Jesus, this is what Job was talking about.
this word redemption means Delivers. He will deliver us.
It says in  [2Ti 4:18 KJV] 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve [me] unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.
God calls us to look up, with faith, with expectation, in prayer, trusting, standing on this promise.

In CONCLUSION

I have asked myself Who is my Redeemer.

Yes. I have been redeemed ultimately to my future heavenly inheritance. But do I allow this redemptive work to be present and active Today.
[Rom 8:34 KJV] 34 Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Jesus offers deliverance presently.
So I as myself, Who is your redeemer? Your family? Your ambitions? your Church? Yourself?
I am humbled by God’s pursuit of me. The way he hears me, and come to my rescue.

I am provoked:
to share this with my family like Jacob with his sons.
to proclaim this in trials like Job.
to follow in Christ likeness by redeeming those around me like Boaz.
Who is your Redeemer?
- Jonathan
